For forty years, Mitsubishi Motors has been among
the first automakers to tackle the development of electric vehicles,
and fully committed to realize them. Finally last year, with our
passion represented by the phrase “Drive@earth”, Mitsubishi Motors
launched a production model electric vehicle for the world market :
the i-MiEV.
Powered by Mitsubishi Motors’ original electric
vehicle technologies, the i-MiEV can be considered as the ultimate
eco-car, emitting zero CO2 while driving. For rapid commercialize of
the i-MiEV, Mitsubishi Motors began various proving tests all over
Japan. Those activities have expanded globally, and the i-MiEV has
now been driven in a number of countries such as Europe, the United
States and more.
The i-MiEV is as easy to charge as a mobile
phone. A fully charged i-MiEV is able to accommodate daily driving
needs. The i-MiEV will also revolutionize lifestyles through a
network environment that connects the car and the home. In the near
future, a compact mobile PC that can be mounted in the i-MiEV will
provide seamless connectivity between home, car, and outside
locations. We have given the name “MiEV Life” to this new
relationship between people, society and cars, which is going to be
created from now on by the i-MiEV.
Mitsubishi Motors has also unveiled two new
electric vehicle concepts as further evolutions of the i-MiEV.
The i-MiEV Cargo utility electric vehicle is
designed to offer free space for a range of purposes, aiming for the
convenience of cargo carrying. This will turn your favorite pursuit,
leisure activity, or business into a more comfortable and fun-filled
experience.
The Concept PX-MiEV, which wears an advanced
appearance with a “less is more” exterior style, is the
crossover-style concept car at which Mitsubishi Motors excels. It is
driven with electricity in daily use. And petrol engine gives
additional generation for longer distances or supplemental power for
higher speeds.
As we see, the era of electric vehicles has
already begun. Mitsubishi Motors will continue to introduce new and
unique technologies, fulfilling our role as a leading company in the
age of the electric vehicle.
